    NIC Payments (Form P32c)

    Hello,

Just off the see the accountant as they have my yellow paye book just in.

As I have claimed back £140 in NIC that I overpayed they are saying they should submit a nil return as you dont reclaim over payments this way?

I thought that you paid the NIC using this book and a overpayment would be a claimed back the same way.

I hazard they are just fishing more more chargable work.

My understanding was that overpayments come back a different way. Why not ask the accountant while you are there? I am apart from the fact they will charge...

I assume you are talking about Employers/Employees NIC here?

You wouldn't normally claim back an overpayment during the tax year, you'd offset future months payments against it submitting NIL payslips to HMRC until it was all used up. If you got to the end of the year without using it up you would need to declare it on the P35 and put a note in requesting that it is either moved to the current year or repaid to you at that point.

Exception would be in a very small Co paying a stat reclaimable payment such as SSP, SMP, SPP where making the payment to the employee would have an adverse effect on your cashflow, you can claim it back rather than offset it against future months, you would need to ring HMRC account office at Cumbernauld to do this.

OK.. am I being thick here but I assume by send NIL return you just send a payslip with NIL written in all the amount boxes. Sign and send it.

Never had the need to do this, but curiousity gets the better of me. How do you send a nil return if you normally pay online and don't have a yellow book?

Two ways, either you ring them and tell them or you wait til you get the first (blue) reminder (round about the end of the month usually) then send off the slip at the bottom of it.
