    Contracting in the Netherlands

My agency has told me I must be on its payroll in order to comply with Dutch employment law. I wonder if this is true. In spite of the application of the "30% rule", I have been told that my net pay will be only 65% of my gross contract rate. This is a higher rate of deductions than I was expecting.

Does anyone have any experience of alternative ways of working in the Netherlands?

Your agency is basically right. There are instances of people not working this way in NL but only with agreement of the agency (who are taking a big risk in letting them do so). If your agents have already decided not to take the risk then that's it.
