    Contracting from abroad..

    I have been offered a role in the UK by a company in South Africa. I will be based in the UK and at the clients site which is a UK company. I will need to pay PAYE and National Insurance in the UK which is expected. My question is the employers NI contribution - who is responsible for that - myself or the company? If it is the South African company how would they pay this? Would they need a presence here?

    It all depends on the type of contract. You say its expected that you are expected to pay NI and PAYE, is that because you are inside IR35? If so, you will have to pay all taxes, including thd apprentice tax thing too, if applicable. If this is the case, are you sure the contract falls within IR35 or can you negotiate the contract / working practices outside of IR35?

    If it is a fixed term contract, your employer will pay employers NI, you will just have to pay the usual taxes that an employee pays. You get some benefits of being an employee, but this is generally the worst type of contract (in my opinion) as you are paid the sane salary as a permie but don't get all the benefits.
