    Intouch totally agree!

Based on feedback from clients on their concerns and our instincts that HMRC will start delving a little further into PSC's... From 1 October all of our monthly clients will get fee protection and helpdesk support as part of our standard package.

With a hefty £6 a month (+VAT) increase, whether you want the cover or not...

Yes, agreed an increase on the monthly fee.

But it's less than going direct to them for the same policy... So you are still making a saving and hopefully gives you some peace of mind.

No, I'm not making a saving, I'm paying twice for the same cover, which I'd sooner not do. My other cover (IPSE+) gives me a lot more than just the tax cover, so it's not a case of simply cancelling existing cover.

Edit: FWIW, I think it's a useful offering - just that it should be optional.

Yes, we know it is unfortunate that this does cross over with some of the benefits you receive through the IPSE+ membership.

But in order to keep our prices competitive with the market, we offer the same transparent service to all clients at the same price.

We hope that our service and increase is still very comparable with others, plus assists those that don't have existing cover and protection from HMRC.

So, I now have cover through both InTouch and IPSE+.

As my accountants, who do you recommend I claim through first in the event of an investigation?

(I can't make an informed decision on that yet myself as I haven't seen any policy documents from InTouch, so I don't even know which HMRC events you are compulsorily insuring me for...)

IPSE+ covers you pre-investigation - so at the point that you receive the "Check of employer records" letter you're covered, so that's where I'd start. It's recommended that you get professional help in responding to that letter to try and head off an investigation before it gets that far.

Thanks ms, but the devil will be in the detail of what InTouch provide, I suspect.

                  From the link:
If you have any sort of HMRC IR35 investigation insurance, or are covered for HMRC IR35 defence, you will need to contact your provider. You should also contact your accountant if you have one.
Two possible providers, depending on the wording of their policy.

Louisa, please could you clarify whether the InTouch offering includes compliance check cover?

The cover that we have does include:

                      - check of employer records
                      - employer compliance
                      - employer compliance visits

For any enquiry, we expect to be the accountants doing the work in defending our clients and this way we deal with the Insurance company on your behalf and can take the lion's share of the admin hassle out of it.
