Do you think it is worth being honest with my current contract agents and saying I am mulling over a better offer and are they prepared to wait a few days.

I guess I can speak to my new job (which is direct employment - no agent) and tell them but I did not want to rock the boat.

I called the screening company today and they said they are waiting for a reference and my security screening had not come back and it would not be escalted as they were focusing on people starting on 6th of Jan (which makes me worry as they leave it so close to the line). They told me to call back next tuesday.

Any other ideas on how to play out this one while keeping both jobs in hand would be appreciated!

I don't think it is a good situation to be in at all as I am at risk of loosing both jobs not the luxery of always having one.

    Thanks again
Did they say whose reference they were waiting for?

Whether they did or not you should have spoken to everyone you put down as a referee before completing the form to check their availability, otherwise you should have put down someone else. You can however still chase all your referees by phone (preferred) then email to ask them to return the form asap. Though you will have to wait until next Monday.

If you had done that so all your references had been returned then you could have talked directly to your new client and "asked" why the screening company were being so slow.

In regards to keeping both now you probably are going to have to take the extension and give notice when your clearance comes through. Say nothing to your current client and current agent at all, but you should talk to your new client and say you have a two week notice period.

It could still blow up your face as you may actually be walked immediately once you give the notice to your current client which is why you should keep your mouth shut.
