Thanks all. I got an HP 17" laptop from John Lewis for £999. Just fitting a 256Gb SSD at the mo.

8gb RAM way too puny for full MS stack plus SQL Server.

Lenovo W540 or T540? The latest ones can be specced with 2880x1620 15" screens. You can get an adapter to add a second drive in the optical bay. I'd buy and fit the SSD in myself though.

(actually I have the W530 but still powerful enough with 32gb and i7. I run a couple of VMs, some CPU intensive applications and a specialist system which has 8gb and 2 CPUs dedicated to it with no problems)
