Another option is the Post Office, they allow month by month rental with no contract, it is called "Home Phone"

You could always run a broadband dongle for your internet and then get a voip system such as www.sipgate.co.uk, they give a free landline no. for your voice, you can then move that anywhere, limited outlay but totally flexible.
