Looking for an AV Solution

I'm looking for a secure AV solution for 1 windows 2003 server and ~5 windows XP clients.

Tried the aproach of Norton Corporate on the server and 2008 client on the desktops but Norton 2008 requires online activation. None of these desktops are connected to the net.

Can't use sophos either.

Any ideas?

IMHO Norton does more damage to your systems than protection. If none of them are actually connected to the Internet that will severely reduce the propensity for any of them to get 'contaminated'.

I'd say your best bet my be AVG Free, does what is says on the tin!

If none are connected to the internet, you may want to consider the admin burden of updating the definitions. If you need any more advice feel free to PM me!

I would say avast. You need a registration code - but that is just a text line.
Avast free & professional are the same core code.

I am using the personal edition for a long time and so far it did the job.

Actually, I once saw a virus wreak havoc on the <insert name of well known loyalty card> kiosks of <insert name of well known pharmaceutical retailer> after an engineer plugged in an infected USB stick. They had no outside world connection either.

You can do this with AVG, but not the free version......

IMHO Norton does more damage to your systems than protection.

The very first thing I ever do to a new pc or laptop is to remove all the Norton software from it.

There is no recent reason for doing this, just prejudice arising from trouble experienced about a decade ago.
