Looks like it's as I suspected. I'd been reading through a sample of the posts, right back to the early one's on this site, and I started to get the impression that the "Contractor UK" site has degenerated. Disappointing as I initially thought that I'd stumbled on a useful place.

It's seems that all that's left are a group of self indulgent individuals who have found others who indulge them in return. A bit like a group of bullies in a park that sit on the swings, so no-one else can have a go, but refuse to use them.
You don't like it, don't participate.

I've never seen this as a place to particularly go for technical advice, ltd company and tax advice yes, things like which mobile etc, yes. Or just general chit chat to while away the day. If I wanted technical I'd go to a tech forum for the particular technology I'm interested in.

Anyway, you're either too clearly trolling, or less likely you're for real in which case you will most likely bugger off and we'll never hear from you again. Either way I suspect no one here is really all that worried.

Spot on - I have used it from time to time because contractors tend to have a pretty wide ranging knowledge stretching from BTL right up to immigration.

If I wanted to know some obscure fact I would post it here on the off chance that somebody knows something - but I would also google it.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

        I preferred version 1!

Is that not what the 'General' section is for?

Nope - general is for general stuff. This part is for more serious questions which have a tendancy to lean towards technology.

Also you are making the asumption that all contractors are tech people. That isn't the case. So what might not seem a tech question to a programmer would be a tech question to a PM

Sometime we talk about lunch. Well, some people do - 'we' might be too inclusive. Some of us aren't so keen on being that adventurous.

                  Complaint

OK, I admit it, I've never really seen the benefit of CVS/SVN/Perforce/Clearcase etc.

Mate, I saw your post but didn't know where to start, your CM idea from youtube isn't worth the binaries to reply to.
You've also posted the same qn twice on another thread.
Read your above statement which shows complete lack of knowledge of some apps and then ask yourself the qn:
Is this a forum that helps people to sort out poblems at work or something that posters contribute whenever/whatever they feel like?
If someone post here and asks how to apply for a passport, do you think we are obliged to help him?
If you feel you've been cheated, ask the Administrator for a refund of your subscription. What can I say?

Anyway, if I had a question about HD TV or an iPhone I suspect I'd find a specialist forum rather than asking a UK IT Contractor, with all due respect of course.
Although the forum has almost 10,000 members, there are only perhaps 100 ish that are regular posters or check every day. We all have pretty varied skill sets so when you create a thread about a pretty specific (and new) technology or concept then chances are you're only going to get at best a couple of those regulars to discuss it with in under 24 hours.
