Personally I use DVD-FAB to defeat the original copy-protection and to make an image, then use dvdshrink 3.2 to shrink the image to fit onto a 4.7G DVDR, then burn with NERO.

I only trust my kids with the back ups.

BTW, I still haven't achieved a copy without one or two pauses towards the end of a film.......

      My 2c ...

When copying discs *purely for backup purposes*

DVDShrink will crack the copy protection on the majority of discs (in my experience, 95%) and lets you (in a single step) create an ISO image which is <4.7Gb so it fits on a single sided disc. Burn with IMGburn

I personally haven't had problems playing such disks, but like a previous poster, I know people who have had problems playing such discs towards the end.

You could try burning them more slowly, some say this helps.

I use DVDdecrypter for discs which DVDshrink won't decode and have only had it fail on one disc. I don't have enough "latest Sony releases" to comment on those.

Just had a look, the one that works best for me is DVDFab Platinum.

I'd agree with Platypus about DVDShrink, it's excellent for compressing a D/L DVD onto a single layer one and very simply lets you re-author a disc so you can take out the menus, extras, foreign language dubbing etc. to reduce the compression required.
