Now I tried Vodafone and they didn't mention that deal. What's the cap on that tariff?

My 3 gizmo seems to contact at 3.2mbps quite reliably. Not tried it in the sticks though!

It says there's a 3 gig a month fair usage policy. I can't see me getting anywhere that though...I hope!

I got my t-mobile data card for 20 squids a month with unlimited bandwidth*

        * fair use polivy of using over 2gb for two consecutive months and they send you a letter asking you to "calm it"

I've been downloading well over 2gb per month every month and never had a problem

being hacked off with my broadband provider I was looking at maybe dropping my phone line and going HSDPA.

          3gig per month from T-Mobile web'n'walk is £29
3gig per month from Vodaphone is £30

          and get this ...

          3gig from Virgin is £15,000 (0.5p per 1kb)

So the same as the 3 deal?

Are those prices for standalone access e.g. via a data card or is it a standard tariff or an addon to a tariff?

The thing I like about the 3 package is that its totally self-contained. I still have my phone contract with O2 (because I have a good deal and good coverage) and use 3 purely for data.

              vodafone is definately standalone
              - no sure if web'n'walk from t-mobile is an add-on.

I am happy with Virgin for my day-to-day mobile
              - but couldn't afford them for data.

              hadn't though of looking at '3' ... but wow £12.77 for 3Gig:

but they don't have HSDPA coverage in Chippenham yet

Anyone actually using either 3 or Vodafone?

I'm torn between the two - three wins on price, but I'm not sure about the speed you get outside of their turbo areas; vodafone says 7.2 Mbps but is much more expensive.

Orange and O2 are out, since they don't do a modem that will connect to my laptop, since they are PCMCIA cards only. T-Mobile is more expensive than three and slower than Vodafone, so they're out.

Any opinions from actual users on what three or vodafone are like?

I've used my 3 USB in Northampton, London and Norwich and got 3.2Mb connections in all locations. Can't comment for anywhere else.

I get 1.8mbps in Chippenham on Vodafone -
3 have coverage here - but it's not HSDPA.

Well, I've signed up to three - just waiting for the modem to arrive, which should be this week (they say!).

They've also started to charge for a modem, unless you take a 24 month contract
