I've had a couple off long breaks over the last 3 years and coming to the end of my current contract which is only 3 months.  Last time I made the mistake of being rather picky and only going for gigs of a certain rate so that it took about 4 or 5 months to get placed. ...

 Am new to contracting, and curious to know whether other contractors start up any kind of business or venture in parallel, for a second income and something to do during bench time, or skill up on something completely different, and contract as that?

 A month on the benchAs the title says, been 4 weeks since last gig and the only calls I’m getting are for PPI or claiming for an accident I never had.
 
 Got the CV out to the usual sites, updated LinkedIn profile etc. Market is looking okish for my skill set, C# in South Wales\West.
