My line is only capable of taking a 1mb link. I have got my ISP to knock down the price to £10 per month. Originally they wanted me to sign a 12 month contract which I politely told them to shove - I've been with them for 7 years so I'm not signing to stay another 12 months.

I spoke to Offcom - No use. They said that they are trying to get some sort of code of practice in place. Once it's in place I will look at moving.

Yes its pretty crap (because new connection can not be started until old one is over), I had to take 2nd line to ensure continuity of service - it might be an option for you.

Of course this all happened because no ISP wants people to migrate.

How sh1t is that? So the only way I can migrate away is to close my connection and then wait for the next one to reconnect me. However I need net access so that I can work from home - meaning there will be a period of time when I can't do this.

Typical botched thinking which goes on this country.

There is a LLU migration trial scheme. Some ISPs are able to give you a LLU MAC, however not all other ISPs will be able to use it.

Its true - LLU migration is not really well defined, in effect you need to disconnect and connect again.

LLU helps get ISPs to the last mile, but migration sucks so far - its something they don't tell you when you sign up...

    LLU and MAC Codes

My ISP say that they can't give me a MAC code as my exchange has undergone LLU. Has anybody else been fobbed off with this, or is it true. The only way I can change ISP is to stop my current supplier and then wait up to 10 working days before the new supplier can connect me. I thought the LLU was supposed to help competition. In this case it seems to encourage me to stay with the same crappy supplier.
