Monitor is OK, works on this machine and another fine in different resoltions.
I'll chaeck out FB tonight, I assume its a parameter on a GRUB line ?

Have you checked that it's not the monitor that's b0rked? Try plugging it into another machine. Failing that, you could also try disabling the framebuffer if it's enabled. You'll need to Google for how to do this on the distro you've just installed. It's a kernel boot parameter.

Linix Server- cant see what im typing
I've just installed a linx server (none of that namby pamby X stuff) at home on an old box I had lying around.
Once it boots the inupt line is below the bottom of the monitor
. Ive fiddled with the monitor as much as it will let me but still the input line is somewhere in my desk.
The screen is says that it is has a default resolution of 1024 * 768 at 60Hz and is running at 640 * 350 at 70Hz.
