Mustang,
Your problem may be DNS related. I had to add entries for all the servers on the network to the hosts file as the name resolution does not work through our firewall.
Once connected to the VPN you can use the ip address of the Exchange server instead of the name.

There's the problem right there. Does the Exchange server run an SMTP or IMAP connection as well as the normal MS proprietary thing? If so, you might want to connect in that way.Originally posted by Mustangespecially MS Exchange

Maybe too many people are trying to RAS on too small a connection?
This would explain 'sporadic' behaviour.
Try speed testing to your ISP while the problem is in effect. This should confirm its not your broadband. Maybe do a timed file transfer test via the VPN to check what the real throughput is.
You can also try pinging -t to the server to see how its looks over a few minutes.
Dosnt solve the problem but should narrow down to the VPN or not.
Is it just Outlook or does everything stall?

Speed of connection
A few days a week I can work from home for my current client which is great. My main need to be able to do this is to be able to connect to their network via a remote access system.
All was originally fine but now I am having problems. I can connect to the VPN but when I try to access any systems, especially MS Exchange, it doesnt seem to want to connect. I get an error message indicating "Problems with connecting to MS Exchange"
I have had my Clients laptop checked out by their client support along with my ADSL modem/router and they said both worked fine. I have spoken to my ISP who says there is not a problem with the service. BT have checked the line and say fine.
One suggestion was that lightning had damaged the filter at the terminating end of the BT line however, this problem is sporadic. Sometimes I can connect and sometimes I can't.
Anyone any suggestions as to what it could be or how I can diagnose the problem end to end as each element are claiming "not their problem"? If I don't resolve it soon I will have to resort to going in 5 days a week!
TIA!
