Those were the days going through pages of ISDN ASN.1 encoding and producting test plans - thank goodness they are over ...

Years and years since I did anything with ISDN. The CLID and other signalling stuff comes down the D channel. Main problem is that BTs signalling, i.e. CLID is different. Whoever they had read the ISDN2e spec was on crack or somat. So boxes from other countries just will not work! Once you find a compatible one it then mostly depends on its software and what you can ask it.

BT used to do a nifty little ISDN TA that pumped out the CLID on an RS232 port, and you could also interrogate it to find out the last n CLIDs.

There was one from Jaguar that was going to be installed in all the Post Offices for n generations ago version of the national identity card. Useful OS on board, but bad weather would kill it.

TAPI rhymes with Crappy for a reason. It's total bastard to work with.

There is some 3rd party ISDN kit from Avaya etc (mini PBX type stuff) that allows you to talk to it and get the data off it. It's the most reliable way.

  • Writing software that monitors phonecalls / Caller ID using ISDN modem!?!?

Anybody worked on software that deals with interacting with a phone line?

Imagine the setup is a single PC, windows XP, and ISDN modem atached to the phone line.

Is it possible to write software that detects calls made to that phone line? Firstly has anybody worked on something like this, or know about how to get it working!?

Or does such a project need a dialup modem and an older O/S!? I have seen examples of this on the internet using something called CAPI and TAPI.

    Any thoughts!?
