Download e-mule and search for the book you are after. It's not like the authors actually make any cash on books so you might as well fluff the publisher
I was kind of hoping for a pointer to an idiots guide on the web which was free. The thing about bookshops is they do not like it when you refuse to pay.

- SQL Server 2005 Express, - Visual Web Developer Express
Sorry, these were the tools I was planning on using. What I wanted was a dumies guide to using them. I can knock together basic HTML but wanted to know how you go about making a sql server database visible over the internet/intranet and how you would go about producing a front end in it
Why not buy "The Dummies Guide to SQL Server 2005 Express" and "The Dummes Guide to Visual Web Developer Express". Apparently, these are pretty good "Dummies Guides" to the tools you were planning to use.

Visual Studio .NET using Sql Server and ASP.NET is probably the most painless way to get data on a web site providing you don't want to do too much in between.
But even more painless would be to get a sprog to do it for you. If you don't know any likely lads you can find one via elance.com.
OK I'm a complete novice at all this internet gubbins. However I think it is safe to assume that it will be with us for a little time to come. Can somebody please suggest a website which would take me through the steps needed to host a database (SQL) and produce a front end for it.
This one is not so well laid out, but it gives instructions on how to install the software on your own machine before you start uploading stuff to your hoster - http://www.webmonkey.com/webmonkey/p...tutorial4.html
LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) is a simple way to get into proper web development, and while MySQL and PHP are not enterprise class (though the other two are), the experience gained will give you a good grounding for when you need to move up to something a bit more heavyweight (like Oracle and Java).
