This question seems to come up quite frequently. My recommendation is Plone. This requires Zope, which can be run on most OS's including Linux.
Significant speed benefits can be brought about by using Apache or Squid as a reverse proxy (web accelerator) in front of the Plone machine.
End user satisfaction is high.

Yeah but it's overcomplicated, yet another tulipty portal (tm) and runs like a dog unless you have a couple of dedicated P4 Xeons propelling it.Originally posted by BillHicksRIPHow about Joomla? Piece of piss to install and use, and the results can be very impressive for the effort involved. Plenty of free templates about on the net too.

thanks chaps.
I'll have a look at those over the next couple of days and see where I go. I'm leaning towards the cmsms on the basis of looking quicker/easier to set up and config.
thanks

Maybe, but since the OP didn't give us any requirements other than platform, OpenCMS is pretty much guaranteed to meet whatever those requirements are.Originally posted by TheMonkeyYeah but that thing is just overkill.
That's a CMS as in Complicated Management System.

recommend a freeware unix cms ?
Hi
Im looking for a freeware (pref open) linux based content management system.
I need to get a lot of info up quite quickly and need to let several people edit the info. (the local distric council have just published plans to permit huge development in the villages around us, so I need to put maps, planning docs, odpm info etc up quickly and easily)
I've made a start using wordpress to get initial details up but I would like to find something with a bit more control. Any recommendations or should I stick with wordpress ?
thanks
