Anyway log into your router's admin panel from your PC and change the router's channel to a different one i.e. from 6 to 11. Keep the password and SSID the same. Disconnect your PC and other equipment. Reboot the router, then reboot the laptop and connect it first. Then if it works connect your other equipment. You may have to reboot them.

Edited to say: If you can't log into the admin panel you need to post the make and model number of your router which is on it somewhere.
I have tried a combination of channels and modes (108 / g&b) and still no joy, signal strength still excellent but unable to connect !

And also my work laptop works fine, it is just my home laptop which connects wirelessly having the issue, which means must be home laptop specific.

can you not change the channel on the laptop, or check it to ensure it's the same ?

Check the wi-fi adaptor driver/properties. Some you can and some you can't.

    so change it to 11,

just literally had this happen to one of clients remote workers this morning, unable to connect the laptop to client provided wreless router but he also had another router for his home machine so 2 router next to each other, the techie changed the channel to 6 still no joy so changed to 11 and bingo back in all ok

The simplest solution is to get a new laptop.

Alternatively, try reinstalling the wireless driver/stuff as it's likely to be Windows related. Maybe an automatic update since the last time it was working has screwed it up.

Bsaically, use inssider to scan and see where there is a bit of free spectrum, then log into your routers admin interface (normally they have a web interface, so just http://what.ever.your.router.ip.is, you'll need to know the username and password, then somewhere in the wireless settings will be the channel setting.

If there is a lot of other stuff in the vicinity then making sure you have "long preamble" selected can work wonders as well.

seen this before with a talk talk wirless box, i think it was caused by other wirelss signals in the area probably all set to automatic, set the box to 6 never had a problem again
thanks but how do I do this ? Do i go into the router config or is it an actual switch/port on the router (Netgear) ?
