400M - effective FSB clock speed (PC2-3200)Originally posted by suityou01 View PostWtf is this?
Dual In-line Memory Module 512,400M,64X72,8,240,1RX4
512Mb OK
400M - Mhz or what?
64x72?????
8?????
240 - Pins????
1RX4 - Lawd only knows.
Any help greatly appreciated as I don't want to buy the wrong stuff.
TIA
Suity
64X72 - Parity (1 bit extra for every 8)
8 - Could be ECC, but could also be banks of memory modules (i.e. 16 Meg x 8 x 4 banks)
240 - Pins (DDR2)
1RX4 - Single Rank Memory

I think the 400Mhz refers to the bus speed and not the processor speed. But I could be wrong.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostWtf is this?

I think you found the meaning of the 8.Originally posted by doodab View Post400M is I would guess MHz,
64x72 is the number of bits deep and wide (64 mbits deep x 72 bits wide (64 + 8 bits of ECC))
The 8 I don't know
240 pins
1R x 4 means it's single ranked and each chip is 4 bits wide.

240 pins is DDR2, DDR has 184 pins.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostMmmmm. Thanks for your help all.
DDR1 or DDR2? Can you possibly tell from those numbers?
You also need to know if it's registered or fully buffered before ordering. Best bet is to put the server details into the crucial memory checker thingy.

Hard to tell without out knowing the server details
Best way to find out is goto crucial.com put your machine details on there and you'll know what memory you need
You can use that to price match else where at Insight or whereever
