    400M - Mhz or what?
    64x72?????
    8?????
    240 - Pins????
    1RX4 - Lawd only knows.

Any help greatly appreciated as I don't want to buy the wrong stuff.

    400M - effective FSB clock speed (PC2-3200)
    64X72 - Parity (1 bit extra for every 8)
8 - Could be ECC, but could also be banks of memory modules (i.e. 16 Meg x 8 x 4 banks)
    240 - Pins (DDR2)
    1RX4 - Single Rank Memory

I think the 400Mhz refers to the bus speed and not the processor speed. But I could be wrong.

    The 8 I don't know
    240 pins
1R x 4 means it's single ranked and each chip is 4 bits wide.
I think you found the meaning of the 8.

DDR1 or DDR2? Can you possibly tell from those numbers?
240 pins is DDR2, DDR has 184 pins.

You also need to know if it's registered or fully buffered before ordering. Best bet is to put the server details into the crucial memory checker thingy.

Hard to tell without out knowing the server details

Best way to find out is goto crucial.com put your machine details on there and you'll know what memory you need

You can use that to price match else where at Insight or whereever
