HTC Desire battery life

Mine was also pretty crap until the software upgrade to Froyo came in. It takes about 1.5 hours to charge and depending on what I use it for can last for up to 3 days before another charge. I only use WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile wireless when I need to. I have buttons also on the front to turn them on and off when required (Bluetooth is a real killer on any phone.)

Oh heck. So if I got a HTC desire I should turn off half the features to save the battery?

I'm trying to figure out why my HTC desire takes all day to charge and lasts about the journey home and a bit into the night before turning itself off and not waking me up in the morning.

I've turned off all sorts of stuff like haptic whatsitcalled, GPS, background data synching. I've got one of the moving wallpapers - should I get rid of that as well?

Anything else apart from turning it off when I'm not using it? Somoene else at clientco has the same problem so I know it's not my battery

Turn off the live wallpaper, it will eat your battery.

Only turn on the wiFi when you need it, otherwise it wears down the battery searching for wi-fi signal wherever you are

I've arranged two buttons right under the big time display "Wi-Fi" and "Mobile". So I can manually run one or the other - depending on where I am,

I find it makes a big difference on battery life (also, by turning both off at night I don't get woken at 1am as junk-mail arrives).

Actually, now I think about it - I confess - It's almost always on-charge (from lappy, or car).

I got an HTC Desire HD about a month ago and I've been shocked at the terrible battery performance. (Well, I would be if there was enough power to be shocked with.) I had a Nokia E71 before, which had most of the same features - GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, music and video playback etc - which one might expect to reduce battery life, but it would last for days at a time. The Desire, beautiful gadget as it is, needs to be plugged in whenever I'm near a socket. If I forget to plug it in overnight then it's at critically low charge by the morning. I'll try the weird recharge routine mentioned above though. Double the charge life would be very useful.

Mine takes 1.5-2 hours to charge to full from about 15%.

I generally get at least a full 24 hour day and often 2 out of 1 charge. In terms of my usage I quite often get through 700+ called mins a month with plenty of incoming calls, but apart from calls and the occasional text (30 in a month would be a lot) the only thing I use it for is as an alarm clock with 3 alarms set in the mornings.
I leave Bluetooth turned on 24/7, almost never use GPS, Wifi or 3G and it's very rare for me to use the music player or games for any length of time.

Also if your using a Task Killer, dump it reason

Also just because the LED is green it doesn't mean your at 100%. The Desire will charge to 100% and then stop charging. It won't start again till it drops below 90%.

Also did you condition the battery as per HTC's advice It Works

Failing that, Root the phone, flash a new Rom and then install SetCPU.

I'm running DeFrost 6.0j at the moment and have overclocked the device and then set up different profiles on the CPU and I can easily get 2 days out of it.

Then various other settings depending on the battery levels and CPU temp.

Often or not, my phone takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to charge up and lasts for pretty much the whole day (and probably the whole night too). I would download SystemPanel App to see if there are any apps hogging up the memory & CPU. Also, every time you use your phone, it drains your battery life. If you are getting low signal strength, that is another reason for the drain.

And yes, get rid of the moving wallpaper.. that is bound to use more cpu and memory than required.
