Second, try www.similarsites.com - bang in the URL of a Java related site and it will bring up a site of other related site. It's surprisingly good.
www.similarsitesearch.com is a better for finding similar websites.

I find DZone a good source of what's 'hot' in the Java world and development in general.

JRoller is decent source of Java-related blogs.

TheServerSide and InfoQ have been around a while but I find them a bit boring these days.

I also check out the Java questions on StackOverflow to see what people are stuck on. Most questions are basic ones asked by Bob and his mates but there are occasional interesting questions on an esoteric subject.

    Website Advice...

I am a Java developer and I would like to find some useful websites that may provide a way of finding out about new technologies within the Java arena.

I currently look at sites such as The Register, Sun etc, but was wondering if anybody can suggest any others.

    Cheers.
