Does mini display port carry sound?
I thought it was just a video connector, so you'd need to use the headphone/line out to get sound to the TV.
Apple store website is normally pretty good for that sort of thing - there will be a few reviews too, probably somebody complaining about the problem you're having
Edit: oh look

Help Needed - connecting macbook to TV
Morning people
Ok here's my problem. my macbook was recently damaged, champage on it while looking at wedding pics so lot of keys didn't work, insurance company have replaced it with a brand new one which is way better in every way than my old one.
I used to connect it up to my Sony LCD via a mini dvi to vga cable connector and then from a vga cable connector to vga cable which is connected to the tv via the PC bit on the back, there was then a seperate cable for sound.
Now, the new macbook doesn't have the mini dvi port anymore so i've bought a mini display port adapter however i opted for a hdmi end as thought it would be better quality however i assumed (i know) that the hdmi would carry the sound but it doesn't.
I think i'm going to have to buy a mini display port to VGA adapter and scrap the mini display port to hdmi adapter. I know i'm kind of answering my own question but has anyone had this before? Is there something i'm missing?
Thanks in advance?
