if anyone is still interested.
Google claimed that the MX records at my domain registrar (speednames) had gone back to that registrars defaults.
I tried on vain to use their guide to update the MX records - but failed.
I logged a support ticket with speednames Saturday morning.
Today, monday around lunch time my cavaris mail started working again.
So no need right now the a bit change in the infrastructure.
my google apps hosted cavaris email works fine now.

the other day I had a website created and in the speednames settings I created an entry of www.cavaris.com webalias "address of website at website hoster"
this line was above the CNAME line
could that be it.
I have now removed the webalias entry.
Lets test some more.

BTW when I was panicking about Google not working yesterday, I was sending myself loads of test messages and not getting them. I've now discovered that GoogleMail is "clever" in that it recongises messages you've sent (because the one coming in matches the one in the sent box) and doesn't add it to your inbox. So you can't send yourself a message via Google, even if it's via a different domain.Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View PostI just sent a test message myself and it is to be found nowhere - also no bounce.
It's mentioned in the FAQ somewhere, under sending to a mailing list.

speednames is my domain provider.Originally posted by RichardCranium View Post
Email sent to @cavaris.com must go somewhere first.
Am I right in thinking speednames is your hosting provider? If so, I would expect you need to configure the email on there. I reckon email sent to ThomasSoerensen@cavaris.com is being cheerfully stored on that email system, and anything else bounces as unknown (i.e. no alias set up for it).
but they do not host my email.
Google apps that has the cavaris domain told me to perform a CNAME update to a line in the Wweb settings at speednames. So I made an entry that reads like this : googleffffffffd.cavaris.com CNAME google.com.
This has worked for about 1.5 years with out problems.
Then today it stops.

the first link in that resultpage talked about a copy rule causing it.Originally posted by RichardCranium View Post
I have a copy rule in the cavaris box to copy everything to my gmail address.
I have deleted it now. Lets see what happens.

Sounds like the fault is whoever is doing the forwarding for you, not Google.
cavaris.com goes to smtp2.mail.ascio.net, whoever they are.

Where is your email being held? At the ISP hosting your domain or on a machine in front of you?

Emails sent to you just disappear.
Emails sent to RandomName@cavaris.com give the same error:Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View PostGoogle tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 <RandomName@cavaris.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table (state 14).

I have those in the box the forwarding rule from the domain registrar is forwarding to. It seems to take a while for the forward to stop working.Originally posted by RichardCranium View PostYou should have a stream of emails from me with the subject "Sent at 19:17" to "Sent at 19:23".
I have not yet had any bounces.
