Yorkshire cable had fibre to your doorstep in some areas in 1997. Pity they were only offering telly and phone over it.

They didn't half make a mess of the pavements. It was pure vandalism with lovely Yorkshire stone flags being smashed up and the missing bits replaced with tarmac.

Be careful what you wish for.

Modems/routers should be new - otherwise it will be plain old ADSL1/2, I think with fiber to cabinets BT can offer VSDL or whatever it is called: much better down/up than ADSL.

AFAIK, BT will be the only ISP offering the trial. Router will stay the same as you'll still be on copper from the cab to your property.

BT Fibre to the Cabinet trial

Anyone on the BT FTTC trial?

I am told that my local exchange is one of the trial ones and so considering getting on it.

A couple of questions, anyone know what ISP's are involved in the trial? And what kit do you need, i.e. is it a special router?

    Cheers

Working...
