It makes the OS desktop transparent, so you can have a window running an application in a different OS that looks like it's part of your host OS. It's on the menu somewhere when running a VM.

I use it on my Debian system with WinXP and Win2000 guests for those times when I have to use a Windows system. Its pretty good. I tried VMWare Server (also free) but couldn't get it to work properly under Debian but use it on my Windows systems. On my server I have ESX and multiple systems to try out things. Have been using virtualisation for years such as VM with MVS and the current contract is z/VM with over 260 zLinux guests, a great way to work.

I've been using it for a while for testing out different OSs. I think VMWare Workstation is better (especially in the management of snapshots which is just a bit wrong in Virtual Box), but then Virtual Box is considerably cheaper.

Version 3.0 add support for multiple CPUs/cores. They've alledgedly added Direct3D support, but I can't find any evidence that it actually works. I was really hoping this new version would support Aero under Vista and W7 guests, but still doesn't.

You can run 64-bit guests on 32-bit hosts too. I have Windows 7 64-bit running in a VM on my XP 32-bit machine.

Just thought that I'd post on here that Sun VirtualBox is brilliant!

I'm running Vista with Debian running in a VM!!!

I know it's probably old hat to some of you chaps but it's great! Linux on one monitor, Vista on the other!!!
