This Microsoft support article should help you to determine if your SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections: How to configure SQL Server 2005 to allow remote connections. It also covers the Windows Firewall.

started a topic SQL Server on Remote PC

    SQL Server on Remote PC

What should I check to be able to connect to SQL server instance on a remote box. I've checked to see that it's running and that port 1433 is enabled.

How would I check that there isn't a firewall rule blocking my connection and if the sql is configured to allow remote connections.

Sorry for the low level of tech ability here in advance!!

Working...
