Logmein comes in 6 different flavours
the 1 called Hamachi is a VPN package and is free for non commercial use.
Has anyone used it ?

Have use3d LogMeIn quite extensively (the free version).
It can be a little slow, but is very good

Get laptop users to VPN into the network.
If just a single ADSL connection, use a Vigor 2800 or similar for the VPN stuff.
Set up a Windows 2003/8 server as a terminal server in application mode with required number of TS licences. Install applications on server. Get laptop users to remote desktop into server.
Or use a W2003 SBS - think it has a remote workplace thingy by defaut?

Just use WIndows 2003/08 Server and install the RRAS server role which will allow the server to act as a VON server. You can then use the inbuilt Windows XP VPN client to connect. Setup either a L2TP or IPSEC VPN

Windows server
I'm a desktop engineer so dont normally touch servers.
However I have been approached to possibly impliment the following
1 server with the facility to allow 4/5 remote laptop users to "dial in" to the server to upload data and/or use apps on the server.
Can you suggest what software I would need and how to configure this service (roughly speaking)
I also though as an alternative is to create a secure url that could accomodate the remote users needs ???
virtual servers ???
all tips appreciated
