just managed to unlock my old nokia 6230 mobile using this website,
http://www.unlockitfree.com/
it supplies a list of unlock codes based on your IMEI, first code worked!

BTW was asked for :

£27 by one website,
£20 by another website,
£16 by local 2nd hand mobile phone dealer,
£0 by www.unlockitfree.com
