If you can spare the cash and downtime - it'd be well worth the upgrade, and removal/renewal of client agents.
NB is not a simple beast by any means and it may even be worth getting a specialist in for a couple of days to get it green...

I work with Netbackup 5.1 on my site. Agree - most issues are either dns not being right or in our case, often client not running / configured properly. It does come down to that. Most my experience is with NB5.1 & Windows, but we use it to back up all unix and windows clients.
pm me if you want

From what i understand you would have to upgrade.Originally posted by DanTheMan View PostRunning NB 5.1 on Windows Server 2000. Backing up Redhat, Debian, Ubuntu, Windows Server 2000 and Server 2003.
Tbh it's all a bit of a cluster ****. What I really want to do (if pos) is demote the 5.1 master server to a media server and introduce a brand new Win 2003 server running NB 6.5 as the master.
But if I cant do that then I was hoping I could get something to analyse the tulip heap currently in place and help me fix the 30-odd failed backups I get told about every morning ;(

Most Netbackup problems are caused by not having correct DNS entries (forwards and reverse).

What platform are you running Netbackup on, and what platform(s) / apps are you backing up?

Anyone recommend any tools for analysing/streamlining netbackup? Kinda inherited an old 5.1 server and want to tidy it up. Netbackup knowledge is.... lacking.
Cheers.
