What's the make/model of the drive? Many manufacturers provide diagnostic utilities that you can download from the support sections of their websites.

    HDD checker

I am suspecting some problems with my hard drive. I have phoned the manufacturers help desk and they advised that the only way to diagnose was to do a back up and then restore factory settings. If the symptoms were still there they would initiate a repair.

    Questions to the panel are

    1) What difference would this make?

    2) Is there a utility I can download that will check my HDD in some way? I am suspecting by the noise I hear that the disk is slowing down from time to time.

    Any other suggestions?

    TIA
Working...
