Thanks peeps for the tips - in the end I went for http://www.jam.co.uk/smsbroadcasting.asp at 5.0 pence per SMS message.

I found the services offered by www.moretext.com to be pretty good for SMS notifications to distribution lists - at the time we used it for Problem management notifications.

If you haven't already found what you want via Goggle, my suggestion would be having a look at bulksms.com (a couple of years since I used them) but they were the best I found at the time to do the sort of job you mention.
As the name suggests you simply purchase (bulk) blocks of messages which can be used in various ways at anytime, one of which is via email, e.g. To: 44821234567@send.bulksms.com sends it the number indicated. Options include delivery reports, access via tokens, encryption etc, etc....
http://www.bulksms.com/ (then choose international or UK depending on whether you prefer £ or €)

Email to SMS Distribution list.
Can anyone recomend a cheep email to SMS distribution list service or system?
I am interested in being able to send the following type of message to a SMS distribution list from an email account. The list will not change much but we would like to be able to add remove recipients.
“Tornado Alert 16:02 - 2 Aug – Midlands, guide line from Worcester to Nottingham” Or “Reported Tornado, Moulton, Yorks. Sandy Road area”
I would guess that there would be no more than 10 receivers on the list as a start and we would like to be able to block buy messages in advance if possible and allow them the rollover if not used.
I have no requirements for reverse SMS back to email.
Thanking you in advance
