Good point, if you are trying to use a proxy server that doesn't exist it will break

Sounds like ff/IE proxy settings in tools -> connections -> Lan Settings...

Any settings in IE may have been copied to FF when you started up FF. (dialog box opens up on frist run?)...

Are you now saying the only issue is with your ipod touch - am I reading that correctly?

Not sure how to help you - if you can ping a website, you're proving DNS and end to end connectivity. If you can't get on it on port 80 then something is stopping you doing so, if it's not a firewall then not sure where else you can look.

Settings on your internet router perhaps - worse case reset everything: wireless router to defaults, your wireles LAN connection details etc. Start from basic - turn everything off and keep it simple, add security etc as you test each step.

I cannot see anything that is blocking port 80. In fact, I have turned the firewall off.

    It is not Vista.

    Is this Vista?

As I discovered an annoying feature which does not trust wireless networks unless you tell it otherwise.

This is in the Network Connections Centre, or whatever naff name it has been given

    WHS.

If you can ping, and some other services work online then you're proving end to end connectivity. It has to be some sort of filtering - most likely personal firewall .

Okay, my laptop is connecting fine with full access to the internet. My recently purchased iPod touch does appear to have problems.

Pinging through command prompt using "www.google.com" was successful last night.

I am thinking this is a router issue - some settings may have been changed recently. Some other lad takes care of that so I will have a word.

Any ideas what I should be looking for?

    Type

    ping 87.248.113.14
    ping www.yahoo.com

in a command prompt. That will tell you if your dns is working or not

Is the router actually connected to the net? It may be up and issuing DHCP details but with no proper authenticated connection to the internet.

Can you browse using IP address instead of URL?

I would guess that your DNS settings are pointing to a DNS server that doesn't exist. Make sure that you have not specified a dns server in your network adaptor config.

    Connecting, but not

Friend's laptop can connect to home wireless network. Obtaining IP address and DNS server address automatically. Can use Windows Live Messenger no problem but IE and FF are not browsing to any websites.

    Any ideas?

Working...
