Are you looking to grab that video about the canal? Try using SDP Downloader.. Click the 'Open' button, paste the URL in (use: http://wm.stv.tv/300408canal.wmv) and it will download the stream to a WMV file for you.

If you want to record what you see on screen as an .avi Fraps is good:

    www.fraps.com

Can take screenshots and check out your FPS as well

Cheers Kevin. I will give it a go tonight.

Get a screen recording app and record the video area as it plays on the website.

I have a videa that I would like to download as a video file. It is played on a website run by a news company. I have the link but it downloads to my temp internet files as a .DAT file, rather than a video file. I would like to convert this to a video file that I can play while offline as a promotional video. Can anyone recommend a utility that will download the .dat file and convert it to a video file that will play offline?

Thanks technical and non technical geezers!

I don't know if it will work but the latest realplayer has a ‘download’ plug-in for your browser, whenever I'm on youtube when I hover over a video realplayer pops up and asks if I would like to download it? Not tried it though.

Thread moved. As DiscoStu said - a link would be really handy to see how it all works and what can be done to grab them.
