Zen here too. It's the 20GB version (just looked and I've used 4GB this month, and that's high I think). I can't understand why anybody, let alone overpaid tax-avoiding IT Contractor scum would put up with a lesser service just to save a couple of pounds a month.

Providing internet is expensive. Anyone doing it for a low price is cutting some big corners.

I don't see the point of going to the smaller providers, BT has to keep competitive so never varies greatly.

I heard Vodafone are after Tiscali
I wouldn't sign up with BT for ten minutes, never mind a year. They are (based on my many personal experiences) worse than even British Gas for not providing a reliable service and not caring less about customers.

I am with Zen on the basis that I only pay for a month at a time and so as soon as they are no good, I can go elsewhere - this seems to work as they have been far superior to BT in every way.

    No cable here.

    It's not available everywhere though...
    And the customer service sucks!!

Not that it helps the OP, but I have a BeThere connection - £14 a month for up to 8Mb (I get about 5.5) and unlimited traffic.. Good customer service too, so far..

Seriously, when I say I'm exceeding my monthly limit, that's a 2gb limit & 3gb is currently more than enough. I don't need to pay for 20 or 30gb.
That's the difference. I regularly use up 20 or 30Gb a month. Like I said, Mrs Bob is always torrenting some show or other, or watching the BBC iPlayer etc.

I collaborate musically with a lot of people so there are 100Mb WAV files flying all over my connection as well.

If (and when) you start hitting this level of usage, the regular ISPs just don't cut it.

Sky Broadband and Sky Talk make sense if you've got Sky TV.

I pay £5 extra to get 4meg broadband and £5 extra to get free landline calls (not to mobiles but it's cheap) to anywhere. So about £33 a month for TV (family pack), broadband and telephone. You still have to pay BT line rental (about £10/month).

Sky broadband's good in SW London but, as with any provider, it depends where you live.

I had a look on what used to be adslguide.org & Entanet compare favourably with Zen. Tiscali don't however, so I definitely won't be going with them! If I do move to ADSL24(Entanet) & they're rubbish, I don't think it's too much of a pain to move back.

Why not just go for their next package up? I assume you're on Zen 8000 Lite? I have Zen 8000 Pro and have never gone anywhere near the download cap - and that's with Mrs Bob torrenting all the latest US TV shows 24/7.

Also you'll find that most other ISPs won't charge you per Gb if you go over the limit. They'll just cut your service down to dial-up speeds with no warning whatsoever. I've occasionally thought of leaving Zen because they're not the cheapest, but then I'll hear all the horror stories from other ISPs and I stay where I am. I'm not sure the grass is greener anywhere else.

Remember the old adage - you get what you pay for. It's certainly true in this case IMO.

My broadband is tied to 1mbps because our phoneline is pants. So it really isn't worth me changing - I currently pay £9.99 to AOL (for my sins). At least it is supposed to be unlimited. So I can download a lot of stuff slowly.

Tiscali still cause enough issues to not recommend them! Again, with Eclipse

I think I pay around £17.99 per month with zen, plus now an additional £1.50 for an additional gb.

Had a look at ADSL24 & it looks good. I would probably get away with being on the "Home 3" package (3GB peak\30GB off peak).

The one thing I spotted with newnet is that your upload bandwith also adds to your monthly limit, so I would probably be in a similar position as I am now. Although they are cheaper than zen.

Think I'll take a look at migrating to ADSL24, cheers!
