unfortunately i dont think google is going to suit the clients needs, but thanks

Cobweb
You need a serious provider like Cobweb.
There are several other providers who offer this service: BT, 1&1 but most of them are just re-brandings of Cobwebs offering.
Check out their Innocent Drinks Case Study.
OK, it's a marketing tool, but contains enough in there to make me call them to, at the very least, have a conversation to sound them out.

I don't know whether google apps scales to this size for enterprises but I would recommend google apps for domains as the spam, antivirus and the 20gb mailboxes are great value for $50 a year (I think), also supports IMAP so they can use pretty much any email client they like.

External Email solution provider
Hi there guys,
my client has asked to find an external email provider for around 2000 email addresses.
They want the provider to fully manage the service, decent sized mailboxes and antivirus and antispam.
Can anyone recommend any companies/suppliers for this ( or any direction would be helpful )
Is this a bespoke solution?
rpughly how much is my clinet looking at facing.
