Just tried it on my machine. After many 'happy' hours downloading ubuntu, creating boot CD, more fun with related software for burning CDs etc, partitioning, installing am now stuffed on device drivers. Specifically no Internet connection since my Binatone ASDL aint got one for Linux. A bit of searching seems to suggest buying a new modem is the answer. ubuntu looks okay, but is carp with no Internet.
How did eveyone else get on?

Also using xubuntu on an old laptop, it's not so demanding on resources, simple and it works never had a crash in fact it's just been on hibernate for the last month never restarted, XP would have choked to death by now.

help! I'm stuck on the end of a 28k modem
Can someone please go to the ntlworld webtulipe & find out if there are any dialup service problems?
I would be immensely grateful & would promise not to eat your children.
My primary box has gone tits up & won't connect & I've failed to install the ntl gearbox thingy on anything else...
Fortunately I have this fall back piece of junk with win95 on it, but it crashes when I try to access the ntl service page.
For some reason I can't re-register, it takes my name & password but doesn't give me a telephone number... and if I don't get the telephone number the gearbox thingie just sits there doing bugger all.
I hate computers.
I wonder what this was about?
Maybe it was the time the thunderstorm took out the 56k modem, leaving bits of dead silicon in the line side interface.Last edited by zeitghost; 14 June 2017, 13:09.Tags: None
