Probably a better option given that info.

The VCR would be S-VHS at best and most likely only composite - they're just phono plugs usually.

Use the scart for the DVD because then you can have RGB which is better quality.

Ive never been one for watching much tv, so Ive never bought one.

this monitor was used in one of those big display walls. Its about 30" crt with loads of inputs, but only one scart and it doesnt have a tv tuner in it. I got it as a freebie when the marketing company trashed them.

I might see if i can get a scart to bnc or svideo cable.

A simple scart splitter may do the trick - one plug for TV and 2 sockets - one for DVD one for video.

You obviously couln't have both on together.

Are you sure your TV only has one scart in - most these days have 2 or 3.

Sounds like copy protection to me, Mark.

It does funny things to the sync pulses, front & back porch, which is used by the video recorder to set levels etc.

This causes the pulsating effect.

Macrovision is the word that springs to mind.

Maplin used to do boxes that defeated this but the aforementioned put the pressure on & they were taken off the shelves.

I've seen a circuit using a PIC that is alleged to defeat this, but I'd have to hunt it out of an enormous pile of Elektor magazines....

Im having problems with a domestic dvd player.

setup is as follows: Monitor for display, video player provides tv tuner (scart to monitor, phono to amp), sound goes out to audio amp which drives speakers.

Ive bought a dvd player which works perfectly if i drop it in instead of the video. However this is a pain since I need to swap audio cables and scart cables about. If I plug the dvd player into the video I get a pulsating effect when playing dvds.

Does this mean that there is some crappy copy protection system in place or have I got a duff scart cable?

I only got the dvd so my daughter can watch some 'Angelina Ballerina' stuff shes been given. (its foul - never let it anywhere near your own small children)
