Re: re
AWstats - It comes out scrambled from the paste and I can't be @rsed to fix it up. This is July and August to date summaries.
August is down on last year because it's been pissing down for the last two weeks and the site advertises campsites...

Guest repliedGoogle keywords are not to bad if you;ve got cash.
HOWEVER in my own experience it is much more cost-effective to promote your website in the traditional media.
Tell us what your target market is.

Guest repliedI've replied to your pmsg now - only just seen it.
IMO Google does things in stages ...
First the bots crawl the page and index it. Later they make ranking decisions. It takes up to a month after it is first crawled to be fully set in it's rankings and properly found in searches. Any changes you make to improve things take a while to filter through. Patience is essential. They do things differently for highly dynamic sites (news etc.) because they show up very quickly.
One thing I've noticed with several new sites of mine was that I could find them OK with a search very soon after being first crawled. Then they vanished for several days. Then reappeared.
My take on that is that google have a huge "production" database.
Over a period (probably a month) they build a "new stuff" database.
The search looks at both "production" and "new".
Periodically they operate on the "production" only with a cleared down "new" and offline they merge "production" and the old "new"
Eventually the switch the old "production" for the new one created by the merge process.
That might be complete tosh but one thing is certain - there's a lot of sophisticated code behind google.
Post up a link if you like - there's no charge

Guest repliedFiddle,
I can find my website using the site.url in google, but not via using the metatag keywords.

Guest repliedAtW posted a load of stuff about this a while back - do a search here. Then ignore everything he suggested and do what I suggested instead.
It works for me ...
site:www.kwikbreaks.co.uk on google
and AtW doesn't even have a website.
If you can't find it I'll email a brief (very) summary of the things you should consider if you send me a pmsg.
P.S. Forget metatags.
P.P.S. I don't submit my sites to any search engines now.

Guest repliedInterested to know as well. I never had much luck either with free submissions. The site is starting to come up now after about four months but as far as I can see this is just bot activity.

Any advice on website promotion would be appreciated.
I have submitted my wbsites's url to the main search engines, but my website does not get returned in the search results for the keywords in my meta tags.
Any suggestions? I'll even be interested in a fee paying service.Tags: None
