Win XP Pro OEM vs Retail
Yes, I went ahead and bought the OEM version, and no problems with installation of support at all. Ebuyer make you buy some 'non peripheral' hardware to qualify, but that includes a £3 mouse!
Now if only I can get my bl00dy wireless network working again! Reckon I'll have to visit the Wifi manufacturers (Asus) site to see if they have a XP Pro SP2 patch or summat.

Guest repliedOEM is cool. When you say M$ won't support it what support do you think you actually get with a retail version?
OEM is the way to go.

I need a copy of Win XP Pro SP2 and have just had a look at eBuyer. I can get the OEM version for circa £80 (if I but some 'non peripheral' hardware - such as a mouse!) but the boxed retail is £200.
I may as well get a new HD or more memory and get the OEM version with the money saved!
BUT, has anybody done this and found a 'gotcha' that made you wish you hadn't? e.g. M$ wont support OEM properly or otherwise get ar$ey about OEM versions?Tags: None
