Just bought a Dell XPS 1210 for my missus off eBay (brand new cancelled order with 3 year nbd warranty) for £800 - made up! Great little machine although not the lightest of the 12" screen jobbies. Runs for blummin hours though.

This is an attractive notebook, but the maximum memory support is low - not even 1Gb.Originally posted by WotNxtI have a JVC Mini-note which I bought about 5 years ago and it is still going strong having even survived a car crash where the car was written off!
The newer versions are even better than the one I have and much cheaper. You don't need a laptop bag as it will fit into an ordinary briefcase.

Memory
256MB Standard, 768MB Max. (PC2700 DDR-SDRAM)

A perfect job for on the bench!!Originally posted by ZorbaI have a laptop with daft blue lights that were too bright. I got a cheap roll of film, opened it so it was exposed, then cut out little squares with a razor to act as 'shades' for the blue lights. Worked fine.
Of course, I was between contracts at the time.

Worked fine.Originally posted by timhI asked the same question a while back, and in the end I gave up looking for a high-res tiny-laptop and got a reconditioned Dell Latitude D420 from http://www.mcscom.co.uk/ for about £450. And, it's lovely! (Still has Dell's 3 year on-site warranty too.)
My only complaint is that the "bluetooth on" light below the screen is ridiculously, distractingly, bright.
They're low on stock at the moment due to appearing on a bunch of bargain-hunting sites recently, but if you wait a while I'm sure they'll get some more in.
Of course, I was between contracts at the time.

Can't say I've noticed the Bluetooth light.
But now that you have mentioned it, I'll probably keep looking at it now.

Libretto - That's a Tosh, right?
Not a big fan of their laptops, especially the smaller ones, as they charge a fortune for external devices with proprietary connections.
Oh, and a naff BIOS as well.
