Cheap and you retain full control of your domains regardless of where your hosting is.

Alternatively, what's in a name? Why not just use the ip address? It'll be as memorable as many domains available these days! Go on start a new trend.
Avoid! Customer service kept me on hold for an hour, even then they could not help once the phone was answered. Service not reliable.

Might be worth taking a look at http://www.reviewcentre.com/ this site holds quite a lot of reviews written by actual consumers on all sorts of products and services including domain hosters. Simply browse 'web hosting' or search for reviews on specific web hosting companies. Could give you some valuable info before parting with your money.

    hosting

If you buy your domain name from ukreg (fasthosts) it costs about a tenner.
Then as a freebie from ukreg you can have your domain name redirected to anywhere else (you provide the link)

So then if you sign up or use an existing isp that offers free web space you can host your files for free, and get your domain name directed to them.

    hope that makes sence.

    Has anyone tried

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/of...465131033.aspx

The basic package looks to be very good value! - like free
The drawbacks seem to be that you would have to develop the website online though - I cannot see any others - can anyone with superior knowledge enlighten me (apart from the fact that its Microsoft)

With any of these services I'd check what hidden fees there are for renewals and transferring a domain name to another party or host as some companies offer very cheap initial prices then sting you when you want to do something more with the domains.

Not saying any of these are culprits (haven't checked the small print) but worth looking into, to be sure, to be sure.
