    I can hardly tell the difference really. Its just a matter of adding in the components you need and removing the others. Sharepoint requires a PhD to setup properly unfortunately.

    Have they actually used the site collection yet? If not (or if only a little), then delete it and create again using the right template.

    Failing that, the templates don't really do much except save you time - to turn a document center into a teamsite, its just a case of creating and configuring some additional lists and libraries, deactivate a few features, etc.

    TBH, I only ever use the templates as a starting point anyway.

    Unfortunately you can't ... you will need to create a new site collection to use a different template.
