Fred Drift: many years ago (poly days) a friend of mine who was a bit of a stone-head was entertaining some stone-head mates, and they all got the munchies. He decided that marmite soldiers were required (pretty much all there was in the house anyway), so he toasted the whole loaf of bread and carefully cut it into soldiers before realising tha his task would have been a lot easier if he'd buttered and marmited it first
