Nothing politicos do or say is by chance...and blurring evasion and avoidance has been a theme for a few years now.

The Guardian reports that Mrs Hodge will not be standing for Chair of the PAC in June.

The post normally goes to a senior Opposition MP but we'll have to wait and see.

I confess that I'm not a fan of Mrs Hodge and I found her grandstanding and willingness to be a rent-a-quote for the Daily Rant to be a positive hurdle in reaching sensible tax/spending policy. I would venture so far as to say that her actions have contributed to a logjam of monumental proportions in personal tax disputes and have demoralised HMRC staff.

I accept that for some she is the "hero" exposing how big business pays little heed to local tax rules and how they need to pay more in order to be "fair".

That is not a convincing argument for me and I'd happily debate that.

My hope is that a new Chair can bring a new perspective to the PAC perhaps with an agenda item high up the list to clear as many disputes as quickly and reasonably as possible. It would not be the first time that my hopes would have been dashed.

Whoever is elected will be a focus for BIG GROUP.

Her stand with "moral" can be subjective, as moral doesn't mean is illegal. Is it moral for them to expense on meals and drinks where they should pay for themselves so the government can spend more on NHS or benefits?
