Umm....I know the UN are more or less a paper tiger, but isn't it about time they were given some teeth ?
Having a load of blue helmet targets who stand in the way of two sides, sounds like condemning soldiers to death.
Arm them, and arm them real good. Their brief to shoot EITHER side until both sides form a peace treaty. Simple.

The whole world - CNN or Christian Science Monitor or just publish it on their website prior to attack. If Israel was supposedly going at pains to leaflet houses so that they will be abandoned by civilians, then they could have done the same for UN - at least make official protest or two before bombing.
That said I think it was just a mistake.

Mind you, I'm not surprised the UN are a bit p*ssed with the Israeli's since the latter blew up four of their observers in a well-marked post in South Lebanon on 25th July.

See ... I was right. The media made the real difference in this conflict.

"Why of course the people don't want war... It is the leaders...who
determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the
people along...all you have to do is tell them they are being attacked
and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger. It works the same in any country.
