    In the old days, countries used to have a 'sphere of interest'. that was because they were expanding
    When they were shrinking, that became the 'National Interest'

    The fact that Russia now has a sphere of interest is a bit worrisome. Russia has large sub populations all over the place, it wont be difficult to get them to agitate for Russian intervention to protect them.
