I like it, I have seen quite a few banking contract roles on there which go un-advertised and unmentioned on the agencies' websites, plus it is basically like a 'live' CV in some ways, what with the endorsements and such.

The only rule I have that's worth spreading is I don't connect to pimps - they want to suck your connections dry and give them your job and pester them with irrelevant offers.
They still can through premium accounts, but they will think twice as it costs money.
So if you can don't add known pimps to your networks.

I legitimately rate people I have worked with if certain of their skills have impressed me. They have rated me, of course, as I'm just an all-round superstar. The only reason we've rated each other is because we both know each other and what the other is good at.
However, I also see nothing wrong with, and have recommended to others, that they speak to their contacts and ask if they would endorse certain skills, if getting those boosted will be more useful for your job hunting than other skills. Worst case, they'll say "no", but I got a bit sick of people endorsing me for skills that are useless to the type of work I do.

I only mentioned it as after I landed my current gig the guy who interviewed me commented on the amount of recommendations I had and he then told me he checked to see if I had recommended those people who had recommended me, of which there were only 2 in total.

What annoys me is that the majority of groups on LI are utter tulip
