Yup, I always thought they were the best of the black and white comedians (up to the 40s).

Never cared much for Charlie Chaplin's silent films though, or most of the other silent actors, as their slapstick seemed rather contrived and childish, although Chaplin was a good as an older character in later talkies.

What I want to know GG is whether or not your avatar is that ginger bint (Felicia Day) from "Supernatural"?

That's positively contemporary compared to what we are discussing here!

Inceidentally, wasn't there some dreadful remake of this featuring somebody like Reeves and Mortimer or those bods who do Little Britain?

    Not forgetting The Invaders.

No but I do grow nicotiana in my garden every summer. It's an annual bedding plant of the same genus as the tobacco plant. I don't smoke myself but even if I did and I wanted to try these ornamental plants I'd be disappointed as the slugs and snails usually chomp their way through them first.

I used to have a uncle who showed me how you can smoke the dried shoots of Old Man's Beard. You just snap a piece off light up and smoke it. The xylum of the plant is of such a nature that it allows air to draw through so it burns down with every puff like a cigarette.

    Tasted foul though!

    Just imagine, an entire hour.

I'd have been hoping the picture valve would break in the tv.
